Why do pugs insist on HB builds and call anything else noob? Any ideas guys?

Probably because they don't understand the importance of [aegis] chains, the protection line in general, and agro management. That isn't to say that there isn't a place for HB, but chances are if they can't give you concrete reasons for why they want HB for a certain purpose, then they just heard that HB was uber and don't understand the game. Or they saw a party build in pvxwiki that had a HB monk and refuse to modify it or understand what's going on behind the build in general and how it interacts with an area.

With a pug, people tend to choose 'fail-safe' builds. A SF ele, while not necessarily the most effective way to get through an area offers less opportunity for user error than something which requires more thought. It's very easy to spam 1,2,1,2, and it gets the job done. It's the same with HB - it is a mindless way of monking which offers the least chance of user error. It doesn't come down to the skill of the monk to effectively prot against damage, it is all about multiple monks spamming big heals.
Tbh, HB does have its place though, especially in 12 man areas where spamming heal party may be the more efficient option. I just think that it is situational.

Its a pretty simple explanation if you think about it.

Far to many players take this game way to seriously.
To a certain extent the game itself makes people think and play that way.

Practically no one I have met in the game takes a failed mission or pvp game as just one of those things.
Never mind that was fun lets all have another go kind of thing.

Its about winning and winning faster than anyone else has ever finished.
Most players have a finite amount of time and to gain all titles you need to play many hundreds of hours.
Few take failure and a wasted hour or two lightly sadly this means they are playing like machines not people and are doomed to a frustrating GW experience.

Some psychologist should write a paper on it, its all quite fascinating just how overly competitive, people can get about a game.
If they put the same effort into real life they would all be extremely successful and completely unbearable human beings.

In the end it all depends on the total team build and whether or not people will use consumables. With the 'right' team and usage of consumables a HB monk will do fine.
And it seems PUG players rely on those kinds of teams for various reasons, fail-safety being an important one of those.
That's why they use it.

Well, my intended answer would make Gordon Ramsay look like an innocent child

But that kind of language is filtered here, so I keep it polite.
There are quite a few players who lack the intelligence needed to play anything but certain farming build. They never looked beyond those builds and don't have the mental capability to understand that something else might also be working.
To obscure their own lack of skill they will call others various names and this is accepted by the 'unknowing crowd', since those don't know any better.
So those 'unknowing' players will also spread the word about 'the only working build'.

To put it simple, pugs are stupid. There are a few situations where a HB is better then a normal monk, but to insist only on HB they are stupid. HB is basically an excuse to make heal party not crap. In this way they forsake other heals. Who cares that well places prot spirits, shields of absorption etc can keep a target alive when u can spam patient spirit and heal party and get the same job done just as easily.

You forget that, at the start of the game, everyone was very casual, very open to mistakes and failures, very accommodating, etc. This is just what happens when you play the same mission for the tenth time, something you've beaten multiple times on multiple characters, and somehow a random player manages to screw it up in a way you didn't think possible. It's just frustrating.

1. It's fail-safe. Well, theoretically failsafe. You can idiot-proof something but idiots will just get better at getting past that...

2. I'm willing to bet that at least half of them don't play monk/are new to monk/fail at playing monk, and therefore know absolutely nothing but HB. Therefore, they default to HB. And then they don't want to be called ignorant, so anything else is labelled 'noob'.

Basically every thing has been said, and the community seems to be in near total agreement.

But I do have a facet or two I’d like to touch on, even though I didn’t notice a post that I disagree with.

To start off I’d just like to say that monking is IMHO by far the most challenging and rewarding profession in GW. I’m personally proud to say I have been monking since week #1 and cut my teeth in the “old” FoW. Now I can’t think of any area/mission/quest that I haven’t monked in. Ya ya I know, get on with it!

Factors effecting monk builds:
1) The specific mission or area you’re in. Is it hex heavy, condition heavy, environmental effects, etc.
2) What build is the other healer bringing? The two builds should work together to keep the team in fighting form.
3) Does the team expect me to rez or not? It is best to cover this before any serious mission.
4) Realize that the perfect build is an opinion, and you can roll with the teams “demand” or not. When it comes to obstinate noob PUG leaders sometimes I’ll ping what ever POS build they want; it only takes 3 seconds to change it back.

HB is easy, almost fool proof, and it works.
but i stil prefer ZB prot bar or WoH hybrid.
if i find a PUG insisting on HB i leave and get another PUG.
the HB PUG probably died because they got a monk hero without e-manegment and HB

As a monk I run the build that I want to run. Not the build that someone else wants me to run. If I join a group and the first thing I see is monk ping your build.. ya know what.. I leave.. I am familiar with my build not theirs. They need me a whole lot more than I need them. We need to work together as a team but if I as a monk am gonna be told what to play, that is not the team for me.

well sometimes they are just curious, or they dont want to overlap with the same skills, i pugged yesterday with someone who had split his points between heal and prot. and his only prot skill was dismiss, i told him that he should put points into divine and he did, either through ignorance or mistake...

ive done stuff like that, and without someone equiring, you wouldnt know till u stumbled across it...

im happy for a monk to run pretty much whatever, if their happy running it they are probably gonna do better than with some forced unfamilier build..
